CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE:
My research on the Nigerian local chicken revealed that although the chickens show variations in some phenotypic traits, the local chicken populations in Nigeria do not belong to several breeds. We are currently investigating the local chickens to validate this finding using genomic data.
